Midweek Update

Sadly, yesterday USCIS announced that it will reject all initial DACA applications and will limit the protection for those renewing their DACA applications to one year, rather than two years.

The Supreme Court decision unfortunately left the door open this possibility. The Administration could have chosen the high road and help thousands of young individuals who were brought to the U.S. as children, but it does not look like that will be happening. In fact, Jennifer Minear, President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) went a step further and stated that, “…this is the administration’s next step towards deporting Dreamers from the only country they have ever called home.”

Now, it is up to Congress. Congress needs to act and act quickly. Congress has the power to enact legislation to help the Dreamers. I am sure that given an option majority of Americans would want to help these individuals. It is time to get that message to Congress and let them know that waiting is no longer the answer.
